Summary for Lesson 3:
What did we cover
– Recapped what we did last lesson
– Came up with our own chocolate creations
– Worked through the questions for the final third of CCF
Class report
We began the lesson by recapping what we did in the sessions last week and going over what
has happened in CCF so far.
Next, we moved on to coming up with our own ideas for a Wonka-style candy. Some of the students had really fun ideas and it was wonderful to hear them share their creations with
such enthusiasm. I was particularly impressed by several students who managed to think very well on their feet.
We then looked at the final lot of VIPERS for the last 10 chapters. The students gave some excellent answers and engaged really well in the ‘bigger’ questions which we addressed.
One question which proved especially interesting was ‘do you feel sorry for the other children’? The sophistication and variety of answers given was wonderful, and it is great to
see the students continuing to grow in confidence.
This lesson was our final session on CCF and we will be moving onto Danny the Champion of the World on Thursday. I was very pleased with how well the students coped with this
step-up, as these books are far longer and more challenging than those we have studied previously. I am looking forward to seeing how they continue to progress as we work through
the next, similarly difficult, texts.
Homework for Lesson 3:
Using the characters of Augustus, Mike, Veruca and Violet as inspiration, come up with another
nasty child and write an introduction to their character.
